I tried the pork roast (instead of the pork loin) for the BBQ and I didn't like it. It was very dry, I thought, and didn't come apart like the pork loin does. It was a bit cheaper but not enough for me to get it again.

Menu Monday

That homemade biscuit recipe tastes just like Bisquick. Which is great, we buy a ton (not literally but close) of Bisquick in a year, simply because it's easy. Waffles, pancakes, biscuits, coffee cake, etc. Easy, easy, easy. I can, in theory, make a batch of this mix much cheaper than Bisquick and use it instead. Yay!

Quick note about that BBQ recipe, I have used the BBQ recipe she references before but she uses a different cut of meat, so I thought it was worth linking to. I'm interested to see the price difference and how well it cooks.

Siren Sleeves


I'm always getting cold hands/arms, doesn't matter what time of year it is or what the AC is set at. I wanted to make a pair of cozy fingerless gloves to wear while I'm at the computer and I loved the fit of these sleeves. 

If I had it to do over I would make the sleeves a few inches longer, so they would be long enough to cover my elbows. Other than that I love them. I had to fight with myself over the yarn I used, it's a discontinued Knit Picks colors, but I'm glad I ended up using it instead of saving it for the ever elusive "perfect project."

Menu Monday

Couple of things this week... I didn't end up making the biscuits last week, so we're going to make "breakfast for dinner" one night this week and make those. Another thing, we're ending up with a lot of uneaten left overs so I'm going to try to use recipes that I can make into something else on a second or third day. We're going to do the chicken tacos one night and then quesadillas another, hopefully we'll eat ALL the chicken.

I was desperately trying to fit this Macaroni and Cheese recipe in somewhere but couldn't this week, I think I'll make a meal around it next week, it looks so good and easy.

The oven roasted Teriyaki Chicken is a new recipe and it's supposed to be under 300 calories per serving, so I'm excited about that. It calls for using Splenda and I've never done that before in cooking (though it's what I use in my coffee), so I'm interested to see how that taste.

Healthier Baked Slow Cooker Chicken from Allrecipes.com


So, the pumpkin butter I made last week came out alright. It didn't thicken up as much as I would have liked but the flavor and texture are good. Sylvester seems to enjoy it and that's all that matters! 

I'm going to use a new recipe to cook the chicken this week, I'm interested in being able to cook the carrots in with the chicken - hello, time saver. I've never had a chicken in the crockpot take 10 hours, though that's what most of the recipes call for, they usually take 6-8 tops. I'll probably add the veggies after a few hours and see how that goes.

I'm debating doubling the muffin recipe and freezing some of them. We do love muffins but I'm a slow cook and they take too long to make for breakfast - and I'm allergic to waking up any earlier than we already do - so we don't have them very often, unless they're the out of a bag, just add milk kind.
